Potions are consumable items with a wide range of effects that can be found in the world, purchased from alchemists, or created by players using a Mortar and Pestle in their inventory with results dependent on their Alchemy skill. Although it costs a turn to consume a potion, their utility both in and out of combat cannot be understated.

Alcohol[]

Alcohol has the effect of raising the player's Strength and Endurance while lowering their Dexterity, Intelligence and Personality by a fixed amount. Consuming Alcohol will also quickly accrue a large penalty to your Outfit score until it wears off. If the combined percentage of all Alcohol effects exceeds twice the player's Endurance (including bonuses from the Alcohol itself) a popup will appear on screen saying "You are drunk!", although it is unclear what effect being considered drunk has on gameplay. All Alcoholic effects last for 240 rounds regardless of their potency.

The following ingredients have Alcoholic properties:

Black Beer[]

A 5% Alcoholic potion that modifies the player's attributes by a flat 1 point according to the rules above. This potion cannot be created, only found or purchased, as player-created Alcoholic potions are given the generic name of either Beer or Rum.

Mush Rum[]

A 40% Alcoholic potion that modifies the player's attributes by a flat 5 points according to the rules above. This potion cannot be created, only found or purchased, as player-created Alcoholic potions are given the generic name of either Beer or Rum.

Beer[]

Tips[]

Assuming that using a permanent attribute potion every level is your primary goal, then it is optimal to use ingredients for other potions which do not interfere with this. Note that no ingredients fortify more than one attribute.

Merchant stocks refresh each day, but are not set until you enter the store-- loading a save before then will result in a different selection of goods. If you do run out of ingredients and are about to level up without consuming a permanent potion, it may be a good idea to refresh the stock of a herbalist until you can acquire the ingredients you need.

Below is a list of ingredients that can be used to create some of the more useful potions without jeopardizing your ability to create permanent potions.
